Utah Bass Tournament - Flaming Gorge Reservoir weekend of 8/27/10

The Utah Bass Federation held a tournament this past weekend at the Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Mike Clark and Robb Johnson both placed in the tournament. Congratulations. We always have a good tournament turnout and the Vacation Inn thanks all the Bass fishermen who continue to stay with us when they come to Manila, Utah.

We have a busy Labor Day weekend coming up and we will send out a new post on how it went.

August 13 & 14th, 2010 - Lyngle Family Gathering

The Lyngle family recently had a great gathering of family and friends to celebrate Warren and Bonnie Lyngle's long time ownership of the Vacation Inn in Manila, Utah. All 21 units were full and we had great cookouts both nights with music in the background.

The final evening was a tribute to Bonnie and Warren for sharing their place for almost 40 years. Bill and Kathy (former Innkeepers) attended and gave a wonderful speech on how Bonnie and Warren had introduced them to Innkeeping 7 years ago and how they have made that their lifestyle now. Bill ended the speech by playing a beautiful flute solo for them. It was a great weekend.

We had a great week during the week of the Rodeo. Lot's of guests came in from all over. The Vacation Inn was packed and we had a lot of happy people here, boating, fishing and celebrating during this week.

On July 22, the bicyclists from all over came into Manila for their annual bike ride. We had a full house and Manila was jammed with 350 tourists coming in for the ride. Some stayed with us and others camped around town. It was great time for all.

Memorial for Flood Victims of 1965

The weekend of July 9 & 10 we had the Swenson and Woodruff family members book the Vacation Inn for their annual memorial and remembrance of the 7 family members killed in a flash flood on June 10th, 1965.

This is the information provided by statistics from the National Weather service for that tragedy.

"A husband...wife...their three children...and two nephews drowned in a flash flood in Sheep Creek Canyon in the Uinta Mountains. They were camped in Palisades Campground along the snowmelt-swollen waters of Sheep Creek. Heavy rains in the area turned the creek into a raging torrent."

For many years these families have stayed at the Vacation Inn and use this time for remembrance and also to celebrate their lives and to visit with other family members.

We appreciate these families for staying with us each year and look forward to seeing them again next season.

July 4th weekend

Whew! Great turnout for the 4th of July weekend. We had almost a full house all weekend. Visitors from Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Germany and Switzerland came in this past week as well as many long time customers.

The weather and fishing was good. Lot's of kokonee salmon and trout caught along with several good sized Lake trout.

Looking forward to a family reunion coming in later this week. Sharon and I went up to the Red Canyon Lodge for a great breakfast on our day off and I did a little fishing along the way. Caught several small mouth bass and a few rainbows.
